Qiu Shengxian ( 邱胜贤 )

Qiu ShengXian

Shanghai-based contemporary artist Qiu Shengxian was born in 1955 in Nancheng, Jiangxi province. After the cultural revolution ended in 1976, he attended university and graduated from the Jing De Zhen Art Academy in 1982.

Qiu Shengxian combines traditional Chinese painting techniques with contemporary elements in an expressionist style. He is the creator of the so-called ‘Mother & Son’ painting style, in which a faint but rich pattern of bodies and faces is embedded in the background as well as the clothes and faces of the main subjects. The artist has been applying this technique in his famous Chinese Ladies series, as well as in his previous Happy Buddha series and the Global Icons series.

Qiu Shengxian has had several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in China and Europe. His works are widely collected and can be found in several corporate art collections and art institutions across the world, including the White House in Washington and the Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai. The artist also recently entered into an exclusive collaboration with the German fashion label S.Oliver, which incorporates Qiu’s artworks and designs into their limited edition art & fashion collection.
